Strengthening Our Capability in Lean, Six Sigma, and Design Excellence

Bourton Group is delighted to welcome Glenn Gooding as an Associate Partner. A certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Glenn brings nearly 30 years of experience in operational improvement, design optimisation, process excellence, and organisational capability development across multiple sectors in the UK, Europe, the US, and the Middle East.

Glenn’s appointment further enhances our ability to support clients facing tough performance challenges—whether that’s reducing cost, improving reliability, increasing throughput, building internal capability, or supporting transformation at scale.

A Deep Track Record in Operational Excellence

Glenn has worked in roles spanning consultancy, senior operational leadership, quality management and end-to-end manufacturing. His experience includes:

Across these industries he has:

  • Trained, coached and mentored more than 1,000 staff in Lean Six Sigma, problem solving and continuous improvement

  • Delivered over £5m in validated benefits in highly regulated sectors

  • Set up and led CI functions for major organisations in the UK and US

  • Developed Lean and Six Sigma training programmes (Yellow Belt to Master Black Belt level)

  • Delivered design-focused process improvement in environments where safety, reliability and compliance are critical

  • Supported boards and executive teams on Lean strategy, Hoshin Kanri/strategy deployment and programme direction

This blend of hands-on operational leadership and deep consulting expertise makes Glenn particularly effective at transferring knowledge, building capability, and enabling sustainable results.

Supporting Rolls-Royce with Robust Design Capability

Glenn’s initial assignment at Bourton Group is with Rolls-Royce, where he will support the development of engineering capability in Robust Design.

Why Robust Design matters

Robust Design equips engineering and product development teams with the methods, mindset and tools needed to ensure a product performs reliably under real-world variation—not just in ideal conditions. This includes variation caused by:

Rather than over-engineering or building in unnecessary cost “just to be safe”, Robust Design helps teams predict, understand, and control variation early in the design process. The benefits include:

  • Reduced late-stage redesign

  • Fewer surprises in testing and validation

  • Lower scrap, rework and warranty costs

  • Shorter development cycles

  • Faster industrialisation and speed to market

  • More cost-effective, reliable products

  • Stronger cross-functional capability and confidence in decision-making

Glenn’s extensive background in APQP, quality engineering, statistical analysis, risk assessment, and design/process capability makes him ideally positioned to help engineering teams integrate these methods into everyday design practice.

Who This Will Benefit

Glenn’s experience and skillset benefit a wide range of organisations including:

Manufacturers with Complex, High-Precision Products

Aerospace, defence, automotive, electronics, and medical device manufacturers who require designs that are reliable, efficient and consistent.

Organisations Seeking to Strengthen Continuous Improvement or Operational Execellence Capability

Businesses wanting to build in-house capability through coaching, training, mentoring and structured deployment.

Engineering-Led Organisations Looking to Reduce Cost and Increase Reliability

Those needing to reduce scrap, defects, test failures, change orders, and late-stage engineering churn.

Companies Preparing for Growth or Transformation

Where robust processes, clear performance metrics, and structured improvement programmes are needed at scale.

Highly Regulated Environments

Where quality assurance, compliance, traceability and rigorous validation are fundamental.

A Strong Addition to Bourton’s Capability

Glenn’s appointment forms part of Bourton Group’s continued investment in strengthening our Lean, Six Sigma, and design optimisation services. His experience in:

  • Leading continuous improvement programmes

  • Developing high-performing CI teams

  • Applying advanced statistical tools

  • Coaching senior leaders and frontline staff

  • Enhancing design and manufacturing integration

  • Managing operational and quality functions

…ensures that clients benefit from both technical depth and practical, real-world leadership experience.

Looking Ahead

We are confident that Glenn’s expertise will play a key role in helping our clients:

We are delighted to have Glenn on board and look forward to the impact he will bring to our clients and our team.
