Developing Supply Chain Capability and Capacity with Zodiac Aerospace

The Problem

Increasing volumes and rapid new product introduction were placing additional demands on the Cwmbran manufacturing facility.

The need to introduce new designs, source components, and espouse flexible manufacturing placed particular pressure on the Supply Chain and Logistics teams.

The business wanted to take advantage of funding for skills enhancement critical to business growth and sustainability, from the Welsh Assembly.

The Solution

We developed a tailored, modular training programme that addressed the need to build a common understanding of the principles and tools of best practice supply chain management. The programme incorporated the opportunity for participants to complete an improvement project, identifying and resolving operational problems that were causing delays and rework.

Working in partnership with Coleg Gwent, we were able to gain accreditation for the programme via Agored Cwymru, giving participants a nationally recognised qualification and the client the route to development agency funding.

The Benefits

47 Supply Chain and Manufacturing staff participated in the programme, the majority of whom also implemented operational improvements in their own work areas. These ranged from ERP systems enhancements and process changes, to developing communications and building cross functional relationships.

Project teams were formed to take forward the more far reaching proposals, resulting in greater manufacturing flexibility and shop floor control. As a result of facilitating the funding, we were able to deliver the outcomes at nil cost to the business.
