Bourton Group Senior Consultant, Dr. Phil Rowe, has recently achieved recognition as a Chartered Statistician, the highest professional award of the Royal Statistical Society.

This award provides formal recognition of his statistical qualifications, professional training and experience and follows on from his recent award of a 1st Class BA Hons in Mathematics and Statistics.

Phil is a GE-certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt with over 20 years’ industrial experience.  Trained in DFSS, Phil became a Master Black Belt and programme manager, working with design engineers in applying DFSS tools to high investment new product programmes. Phil has extensive experience in quality improvement with emphasis on Lean Six Sigma and Design for Six Sigma.  Phil excels in Lean Six Sigma tools and his experience of implementing business improvement methodologies combined with his meticulous approach, gives his statistical analytical work a rigour and authority that consistently delivers excellent results.  Phil is a skilled mentor, coach and leader.

Phil is currently supporting the ‘Robust Design’ teams at Rolls-Royce.  This work involved developing training, process and infrastructure, and mentoring a number of project teams globally in the application of the methodology to bring about performance improvements.  He has also designed and implemented a Rolls-Royce internal mentor development and certification programme and as a result Rolls-Royce mentors are now co-delivering training with Phil, and running team-based workshops, as part of the knowledge transfer process.

Phil graduated from Manchester University with a PhD in High Energy Particle Physics in 1985.

He has resided on several statistical committees for the British Standards Institute.  He sits on the editorial panel of the International Journal of Lean Six Sigma.
