Bourton Group is currently working within the support organisation at their Headquarters to implement operational improvements in the HQ functions through the implementation of lean processes in the provision of logistics support. As part of the programme, we have developed a communications strategy aimed at accelerating buy in and commitment from a wide range of stakeholders. This involved developing a stakeholder ‘map’ detailing the communications needs of those involved, from the military and civilian personnel engaged in service delivery; their managers and senior officers; to the high ranking service MOD and government sponsors of the project. The strategy identified suitable channels of communication and built up a communications plan, underpinning the vision and detailing the changes needed as each project milestone was reached. We also helped our client to understand the need for ongoing communications management to help embed these changes. Transferring responsibility for communications from the project team to local line management as the changes were implemented has helped to reinforce ownership and relevance. The approach we developed has been identified as potential best practice to apply to other major change initiatives.
