Our Partners and consultants are of the highest possible calibre and picked from backgrounds in a range of industries and sectors. Our team can boast successful careers in executive or senior management roles prior to joining Bourton Group. Their “real life” experience of day-to-day strategic and operational issues have proved invaluable to the organisations we have worked with, and have enabled us to demonstrate a pragmatic delivery style according to different cultures.

Keith Bissett


Keith Bissett is Chairman of Bourton Group and a seasoned practitioner in change management and Lean Six Sigma deployment. He has over 25 years’ experience in consultancy, working in the public and private sectors, with particular expertise in Manufacturing, Aerospace and Defence and Financial Services

Keith has a Diploma in Management Studies and is a Member of the Institute of Management, CIPD, IOD and a Fellow of the RSA.

He works with several universities in assisting research programmes in Best Practice, and he holds the post of Deputy Chair of Governors at Coventry University. He is also a Council Member for the Management Consultancies Association where he chairs their Audit Committee.

Mike Notman

Managing Partner

Mike is a highly experienced organisational development, performance and change management specialist, who is probably best known for his challenging approach to the development of leaders and teams to effect cultural transformation. Mike has delivered significant change programmes in a wide range of private companies and larger public bodies as well as numerous growth orientated service and manufacturing businesses. Before joining Bourton, he held Directorships in three leading niche consultancies that were part of major accountancy practices.

Outside of work, Mike tries to balance his urgent need to improve his Golf with his need to spend time at home with the family. This, alongside his rediscovery of skiing and regular trips to Portugal means that he really doesn’t have enough time for very much else. A passionate supporter of Scotland Rugby, he remains eternally optimistic that one day… !

Rob Walley


Rob is a Partner at Bourton Group and has been helping organisations in both Public and Private sectors improve their operational performance for 25 years. Rob is particularly recognised as an Industry expert in the deployment of Lean within the Roads and Infrastructure sector, he leads our work throughout the Construction and Infrastructure world. Overall, he has a reputation for successfully managing complex, multi-disciplinary business reorganisation and Lean improvement programmes.

Rob is also a Director of the International Consulting Network, a collaboration of a number of international consulting organisations of which Bourton Group is a founder member.

Outside Bourton Group, Rob has held senior, board level managerial positions and has a BEng (Honours) degree in Production Engineering and Production Management from Nottingham University.

Ken Powell

Ken Powell


Ken is an experienced Consultant who became a Partner with Bourton Group in July 2017.
He has a successful background in operational improvement and change management across a range of sectors particularly Manufacturing, Construction and Rail. His improvement experience of applying Lean and Six Sigma tools within Client organisations and supply chain spans 15 years, he has an adaptable, engaging approach with proven success in leading teams through change and improvement programmes. Ken has a BEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a Certified Lean Practitioner & Six Sigma Black Belt.

With a young family, Ken has precious little free time but tries to keep his practical engineering skills functional with his off-road competition vehicles. His other passion is music, playing and teaching brass in various bands and orchestras.

Jim Cresswell

Commercial Partner

Jim Cresswell is Commercial Partner and Company Secretary of Bourton Group and has over 20 years’ experience of the management and implementation of financial systems and procedures.

Jim is a member of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and graduated from the University of Warwick with a BSc (Hons) in Management Sciences.

In his spare time Jim is a keen cyclist and runner, and recently organised and participated in a charity event where he cycled from John O’Groat to Lands End. He actively contributes to his local community, holding the position of honorary treasurer for the village committee, as well as being a member of his local round table.

Tim Washington

Associate Partner

Tim Washington is a Partner in Bourton Group and has been working with clients in a wide variety of private and public sectors to design and implement operational excellence for over 25 years. Tim is a qualified mechanical engineer by background, with an honours degree in Engineering Science from Durham University. Tim’s initial experiences in industry were in the machine tool and environmental testing environments.

Tim’s great strengths are the ability to configure operational excellence principles for very varied applications and really make things happen. He has extensive experience in sectors such as the nuclear industry, further and higher education, central and local government and is currently leading Bourton Group’s work in the Professional Business Services sector.

Julian Hynd

Non-Executive Advisor

Julian has over 20 years’ experience in developing strategy and leading significant change programmes that have delivered tangible and sustained results, across multiple sectors. A long-time advocate of the role management consultants can play in organisations, Julian spent two years as a member of the Advisory Board of the Management Consultancies Association (MCA). Julian previously worked at Siemens, NS&I, Ford Credit Europe, and is currently is an Executive at VW Financial Services (UK) and an Advisory Board Member for the UEA Business School Julian is the Chairman for the Institute of Directors (IoD) Buckingam & MK Branch, a Chartered Companion of the CMI, and member of the CIM.

Between a young family and coaching Rugby on weekends, Julian finds little time for his passion for writing and amateur videography.
